The San Diego Wine Affair is proud to support San Diego’s children’s charities. The 5th Annual proceeds are to benefit the following charity:

Miracle Babies

Miracle Babies

The Mission of Miracle Babies is to provide support and financial assistance to families with critically ill newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; and to enhance the well-being of women, children and their families through education, prevention and medical care.

Miracle Babies seeks to address the issue of maternal health by partnering with the YMCA to provide a weight management and nutrition program to reproductive age women who are at risk for preterm birth. The purpose of this program is to reduce the number of babies who end up in the NICU by focusing on the health of the woman. Women who are obese at childbearing age are at higher risk for infertility, miscarriage, gestational diabetes and hypertension.

The founding purpose of Miracle Babies is to help qualified families meet their basic expenses while they are caring for an infant in the (NICU). In coordination with the referring hospital, Miracle Babies evaluates each families’ need by considering several factors, including, income-to-debt ratio, gestational age of child at time of birth, length of stay in the NICU as well as the severity and nature of birth abnormalities, and distribute grants to families based on their need. Each family is also connected with our Family Network for educational and emotional support.

A child’s development is critical in the early years of their lives, and a positive, productive environment only enhances their chances to have a happy, and successful life in the future. Raising Miracles is a program designed to support healthy development in infants and children. Through Raising Miracles, families will learn about important developmental milestones, education and awareness for early intervention and coordinated care.

Past beneficiaries

The San Diego Wine Affair is proud to have supported the following charities in the past

Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas - NICU

Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas - NICU

Every year, 7% of the close to 2,000 babies born at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas require the medical services of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides twenty-four hour care for babies who are in critical need. Many premature and newborn babies – often weighing less than one pound-- have underdeveloped lungs, requiring respiratory therapy and the constant care of specialized neonatologists. It often takes months for their little bodies to be mature enough to live outside of incubators because their skin, lungs, and feeding abilities are underdeveloped. The journey to health for these fragile babies is often a difficult and trying time for families. The NICU care team works closely with mothers and families to ensure that babies are learning to feed and that bonding is taking place.

As our North County community continues to grow, so does the need for a larger and upgraded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Right now, many babies in critical condition must be transported to Rady Children’s Hospital - some twenty miles away – separating families, impeding breastfeeding and delaying bonding.

Your support through the San Diego Wine Affair will help these infants at the most critical time in their lives. By expanding our current NICU, adding new equipment and providing advanced technology to care for their special needs, we will be able to provide the best medical services for the most vulnerable members of our community, keeping families together close to home.
